Wet Wet Wet

I often slick back my hair for a glamorous yet masculine look, so I was quite happy to see that I was on ‘trend’ as far as the autumn/winter runways were concerned. Firstly it needs to be said… there is a big difference between your hair looking wet and your hair looking dirty! The key is to put enough product in your hair to look damp all the way down to mid length and leave the ends dry and clean, like your hair would naturally look as it dried.

Backstage at Paris Fashion Week Redken’s Hardwear 16 was all the rage and Just-Out-Of-The-Shower Hair Gel by Khiel’s works a treat, but I used Bumble & Bumble’s gellac because once it’s in, it’s in. There’s no brushing it out, it literally freezes shapes with a glistening finish, so your hair looks wet all day long.

Not only is it super easy to maintain it’s also versatile. Try flicking it to the side, putting it into a bun (messy or tamed) or slick straight back.

Her Life is an Open Armoire: Iris Apfel for M.A.C

They say as you age, you get wiser, they never told us you get more stylish!!! Iris-Apfel, the 90 year-young self labeled ‘geriatric starlet’, is giving a new meaning to the word granny chic by teaming up with MAC to produce a 20 piece line including lipsticks, shadows and blushes.

I would personally have the whole collection (available from January 2012) stacked into my beauty case purely for the names – Pink Pigeon lipstick, Entertain Me Lip Pencil in ‘Clearly Orange’, Howzat deep grey eyeshadow, Too Chic Beauty Powder and Toco Toucan nail varnish!!! The collection has as much flair and jois de vivre as the woman who helped create it.

Here are a few of my other favourite MAC ads I’ve scanned for you (I love getting first try of the products, but I love collecting the press releases more – weird, I know!)

Tricks of the Trade

I haven’t been out for 5 weekends in a row, so trust that the weekend I AM going out, I get a pimple… and not an inconspicuous one either! Luckily I know a few tricks of the trade and considering everyone is embracing the Marilyn at the moment, I’m not alone.

A little bit of brown eyeshadow applied to the little sucker and voila! It becomes a beauty spot.

Delectable Darphin

How amazing are these Christmas treats sent to the LOOK office from Darphin? It bought just the right amount of cheer to the girls and I, with a  selection of chocolate and vanilla flavours. They were the perfect companion to the sample of their new Ideal Resource Smoothing Retexturizing Radiance Cream, a triple action anti-aging and radiance cream, available nationwide from February 2012.

Hmmm... which one to choose?

I love the little scooper!

Soap & Glory in all it’s Glory

Soap & Glory have my full attention at the moment. Whenever I see a glimpse of their trademark packaging, I have to drop everything I’m doing. I don’t just love the products they offer, I love the cute vintage images and uber fun font they use on their labels.

Peaches and Clean has been working wonders for my skin and has somewhat taken over my beauty regime.  Not only is it a 4-in-1, it includes peach extract (with skin smoothing fruit acids), quillaja bark (a gentle natural ‘soap’), jojoba oil (an emollient skin softener), Detoxyboost technology (to help purify and deep clean) and Poreshrink R2 (for a clearer, fresher, brighter complexion).

Peaches & Clean Deep Cleansing Milk £7

Then came the Christmas gifts… Now if there’s one amazing perk to being in the beauty industry, it’s the Christmas presents! I absolutely adore the ‘You Cube’ which is a five-piece box collection of their best bath and body products in travel-ready sizes. The box includes the legendary shea butter Original Formula Righteous Butter Body Butter, Flake Away body polish, Hand Food Hand Cream, a super sudsy Shower Puff and Clean On Me Shower Gel.

You Cube £10

Next up was a Heaven Nose gift box, perfect for those friends who love a good fragrance. It features Original Pink Eau De Soap & Glory Formula 1 perfume spray 50ml and a jar of the similarly-scented, The Righteous Butter body butter.

Heaven Nose gift set £16

And then came my favourite… the drool-worthy Travel Case Gift Set. I swear I heard angels sing when I saw it arrive (seriously… that’s how excited I get by beauty products). Not only is the case a super sweet pink hard traveller, it’s jam-packed full of goodies like Clean On Me shower gel, The Righteous Butter body lotion, Flake Away body polish and Glad Hair Day shampoo and hairbrush. I’ll be sparkling wherever I go!

Not Just A Pretty Case £35

What’s even better… They’re now on sale 3 for 2, so if you haven’t bought your gifts, get crackin’.

I’ve never been quite so touched about a perfume as I am about Stella McCartney’s new fragrance, L.I.L.Y. I won’t bore you with all the details of how it smells (a balance between truffles and lily of the valley) but I did have to share her inspiration for the name. It was the nickname her dad, Paul McCartney, gave to her mum – Linda.I.Love.You. Swoon!

L.I.LY £60 Selfridges from 26th January 2012
